BIGSKYY'S WYATT EARP (MIKIE MINNOW)
(October 1, 1993 - August 7, 2002)
Robin and I were with Mikie as he peacefully left us yesterday morning. Mikie had been diagnosed just two weeks ago today with osteo in his front left shoulder. His pain had become unbearable for him and for Robin and I.
Mikie came to us in June, 1996 from Daytona. We were on a rainy vacation, spending our time at the track. We felt it was time to get our second greyhound. Robin and I visited the adoption kennel and the handlers brought out a few dogs. Many were shy, some aloof. Mikie came out and went directly to Robin, giving her lots of kisses. It was enough to make your heart melt. Of course, we picked Mikie up on the way out of town to start his new life in Atlanta.
Mikie was my coursing dog. He was a beautiful and powerful runner, achieving the title of FCh in ASFA lure coursing. I loved to slip Mikie, especially when he was running with some of the other "old timers." He ran against some of the best at that time. Lucy, Foxey, Lilly, Brandy were just a few of the girls that beat him regularly on the coursing field! In his later years, after he couldn't run anymore, he could regularly be heard at Region 7 field trials cheering on the hounds.
Mikie's last few days were spent with Robin (thanks so much). He would "go to work" and hang out with her and her hounds while I was at work. At night he would come home and spend the evenings with JR and I. I'm thankful he had such good care, especially over the last couple of weeks.
Mikie Minnow, Bravest boy in all the land, you are missed.
